March Forth with Mike Bauman
A lifelong fan of music, Mike gravitated towards the heavier end of the spectrum at a young age thanks to his big brother Brandon, a 90's teen into the likes of Metallica and Korn.
Mike's first CD was a Metallica single of "Until It Sleeps," which he purchased in the third grade on a trip to CD Warehouse in Toledo, Ohio with his Mom. The CD also featured a live track in which James Hetfield made liberal use of a certain "f" word. After hearing this playing on the family's living room entertainment center that Mike's dad set up (those speakers still work, by the way), Mike's Mom took him back to CD Warehouse to return the disc that same afternoon. Nonetheless, his love for music never waned from that moment forward.
In 2010, Mike graduated from the University of Toledo with his Bachelor's Degree in Communication with a focus in Journalism. He landed a gig with Toledo Free Press later that summer, where he initially just covered sports. About six months later, Mike's love for music was revealed to his editor at a party where he was among several vets at the paper sharing stories about musicians they'd encountered over the years. The next day, his editor emailed him his first music feature assignment.
During his time with Toledo Free Press, Mike tried to shine a light on the Toledo music scene by equally covering both the local and national acts performing in the Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan areas. In his time with the paper, Mike wrote features on everyone from local artists like Tropic Bombs, Goodbye Blue Skies and Ben Stalets, to national acts like Coolio, Korn, Trivium, Alter Bridge, Killswitch Engage, Sevendust, Citizen, The Pretty Reckless, All Time Low, Dead Sara, Tremonti, Social Distortion and Nonpoint, among others.
In 2012, between writing for Toledo Free Press in addition to doing local sports radio and TV broadcasting with Toledo Sports Network, Mike started his podcast - Bauman's Breakdown - to share some of those long-form music interviews with listeners.
After those early years cutting his teeth, Mike is back with his rebranded and relaunched podcast, March Forth with Mike Bauman. The meaning behind the name "March Forth" is perseverance and moving forward. The goal of the podcast is to inspire listeners to chase their own dreams by sharing the stories of others who persevere and move forward.
